Calling all DJs and MCs!
This term, as part of this unit, each Year 4 class will write and perform its own hip hop song exploring the class's identity. Your class song will be performed and recorded at the end of Term 2, and the best song will be chosen by Ms. Wright to perform an Assembly.
So... What do you have to do?
The Task...
Is to write a short hip-hop song as a class about our identity and why music is important for us. Remember - music is one way for many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to express who they are (their identity) and their connection to the land, as well as to tell stories and record their heritage. Your song will be about your class - what you want to be, what you love to do with your life, and where your family is from.
What we need to do...
- Work out our class identity - who are you all? What is your story?
- Write a simple chorus (we'll use the school sports chants as a starting point)
- Write 2-3 verses that rhyme, follow a certain structure, and that will be rapped (!)
- Perform the song AND record it
What we need to know...
- What is hip hop?
- What is verse-chorus structure?
- How to write a verse AND a chorus
- What is your class like? What's your class identity?
And how can we...
- Put our song together - what order should the song follow? Which instruments to use?
- Play the cool backing music that Ms. Wright has written specially for Year 4
- Learn to play and sing as a group, and to follow a conductor
